WIGAN WANT TO MAKE HISTORY

Posted 08/05/08 12:37
EmailPrintSave

Wigan defender Emmerson Boyce says they are desperate to go down in history as the team that stopped ManYoo winning the title.

Far from lying down and handing United the victory that will win them in the Premier League, Boyce says the Latics are determined to make names for themselves as the team that stood in their way.

"We would like to emulate West Ham," says Boyce in the Evening Standard. "People still talk about that team that cost Manchester United the title 13 years ago and I'd love people to remember us in 13 years' time.

"We are loving the publicity. Everyone will be watching us across the world and it shows how far we've come as a club. We are going to enjoy being in the limelight.

"People are talking about Wigan right now and that's a good thing. The fact we can have a say in the title race has given us extra motivation. I and the rest of the players want to show people what we can do against Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez and if we cost them the title everyone will talk about us. We are safe in the table. They are the ones with everything to lose."

He insists that boss Steve Bruce is determined to prove himself as a manager, even if that means denying his former side the title.

"The manager has been very vocal in training and has told us he wants us to win the game," said Boyce.

"He has already set up the tactics and has organised us so we will be very hard to beat. He deserves to be in the running for manager of the season with the way he's come in mid-season and kept us up. When he took over we were second from bottom, one point above Derby, and now we have won many points and are safe."

"What people are forgetting is how desparate Fergie will be to win, not just for the title but to vindicate his decision to rest players at Stamford Bridge."

"To the bigMU : INEVATIBILITY. Thanks for that. Priceless! "

"to all you doubters, get over it!!!!! we (united) deserve to be champions again, and im 100% sure we will do it. call it cocky but i am and thats that. hope you all enjoy the game cos i will be there to celebrate winning the league again,"

"Who`s the cheat, sorry I mean Referee on sunday????. 1. No Penalty`s for M.U whatever the circumstances 2. When a M.U player gets repeatedly fouled await his retaliation and send him off. 3. Get a 1 eyed linesman (aka stamford bridge) who can only see the colour blue) 4 Ignore all fifa & Uefa & premier league mandates regarding a) a player is on-side if he is level b) shirt pulling at corner kicks (see Ballack) for this 1 c) Dont let M.U take free kicks quickly, because you cannot keeep up with play, use this time to catch your breath, allow the other team back into position and loose any advantage in giving the free-kick in the first place, oh and your on TV again."

"Does anyone else think it is a huge insult to Bolton that their capitulation in the London game is seen as a foregone conclusion? The facts are plain - Wigan have never taken a point of Man U and it would be highly unlikely that this will start on Sunday. The only chance that Terry lifts the prem trophy this year is if he misses his game and drives to the north west to present it to United (I'm sure there's a disabled car parking space in Wigan he can slam his Bentley in - better still he could park across two spaces - and then hurl abuse at anyone who questions him...England captain material, don't make me laugh!)"

"thebigMU, as a fellow unied fan i'd clearly love to post this comment with a view to echoing your sentiments, but i just couldn't resist the temptation to point out the irony in you saying "If their is one word all you people need to learn, it is INEVATIBILITY." Maybe you should take a bit of time to learn (to spell) that word yourself, eh?"

africancowboy80

"Wigan, whatever all of the players gang up against Man Utd not to win this league, God of Soccer will not allow all of you players to succeed to stop them. Go Man Utd gooooooooooooooooooo. "

thebigMU

"this is to all you latics and chelsea supports! If their is one word all you people need to learn, it is INEVATIBILITY. Man utd are gonna win and that is that!!!! the premiership crown belongs to us!"

jobinson

"wigan dont let Ronaldo have a free move, wayn and taveze improve on ur defence four this one,if u can frustrate MU 4 the first half goal less u got the advantage."
