John Terry reportedly told Roman Abramovich that he wants to talk to Manchester City about a possible £50m move.
The Chelsea captain met with the club's Russian owner on Saturday afternoon and - according to reports in several Sunday papers - told him that he wants the chance to discuss a move to the world's richest club.
The Sunday Times reports that Terry was told that the club would not match City's offer of £250,000 a week, and that he would have to hand in a transfer request to engineer a move north.
Abramovich is allegedly willing to make Terry the highest-paid player at the club but will not pay him significantly more than current high earner Frank Lampard.
City apparently remain confident that they will sign Terry, with a £5m signing-on fee sweetening the deal, according to the News of the World.
They also suggest that any money recouped from the sale of Terry would be ploughed into a move for AC Milan's Alexandre Pato.

"What a joke you lot are. How can Chelsea fans slate one of the best players that they have ever had. What's 50 mil to the Citeh owners? It's like the average Joe buying a pint at happy hour. Means nout! The so called big 4 is over. There is too much class now chasing that little group. Arsenal are sh*t and as for Manure you are the laughing stock with your team of old men! "

"Just one question to all of us footie supporters - if a rival to your present employer offered you a heap more money to do the same job you do now, but for them, would you go? I daresay that not many of us could turn it down, even if our day at work left us with a warm fuzzy feeling at the end. Add to this that Mr Terry is undoubtedly becoming more aware that the number of years he has until enforced retirement are outnumbered by the years he's already had at the top, I couldn't blame him for taking the money whilst it's there. I know I would. How about the rest of you?"

"I do love this ......
Reminds of ManU fans and Ronaldo... he was a legend and no one close until he left then it was 80 million quid We will take that all day long not worth that.

"The way I see it, Terry is already a goner, this would have been decided last week. Carvalho was a sure shot transfer to Inter, that deal has suddenly vanished, which obviously tells us that the management wants to keep Carvalho as the'experienced' center half along with Alex and Ivanovic as a back up. This way Chelsea makes money, Terry gets his wages, Man City get an idiot who is on his way down and Carvalho is assured numero uno spot in the defence."

"Said it before and I'll say it again, sell him. Anything over £35 million is unreal for him so we should snap their oily hands off. I'd have more than enough faith in Carvalho & Alex at the back with Bruno Alves & Ivanovic keeping the bench warm."

"Am sorry...Mr.Terry, u are lost in the wilderness of so called "money making'....Carlo has come out and told he is not for sale, Bruce Buck has come out and told he is going nowhere, chelsea want him and he wants chelsea, Kenyon has come out and told the same...and this bloke is apparently mad at Chelsea for not giving the eagerness of holding him? he already has a very good contract...+£25000 rise to it...what more does he want? He was my idol...but i think he is faltering away with money in his minds, and he expects Chelsea to pay him 250,000£ ? lol...he can leave to Man City which will do no harm to the top 4. Am shocked with what he is having in his mind...Chelsea! please replace this guy...if he is bragging for talks. I don't know how much are the news above true...but if it is, £50 million sounds awesome for Chelsea. "

"he strikes me rather as being the stereotypical shandy drinking cockney ponce - doubt he will be able to survive in a normal place like Northern England. oh well, dare say he will commute from his Essex mansion anyway. good luck to the lad, who would turn down a considerably better salary for doing the same job somewhere else?"
