Martinez - not feeling the pressure.

POINTS WILL COME SOON - MARTINEZ

Barclays Premier League Relegation 2009/2010 Win Outright: Wigan 10/3

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez insists he is not yet feeling the pressure in what has become a difficult first season for him as a Premier League manager.

When he took over from Steve Bruce in the summer, the Spaniard set out a long-term plan which he hopes will eventually result in him leading the Latics into Europe.

But change has come at the cost of consistency and Wigan head into the match against Stoke at the DW Stadium with just one win in nine league games.

However, the former Swansea manager has faith his methods will pay off over a period of time and, despite being just two points above the relegation zone, he has no worries about their top-flight longevity.

"The pressure is what we put on ourselves with our performances," he said.

"In football it is better to be lucky than being good but if you want to be successful long-term you need to be good on a daily basis.

"I'll be worried when I don't see the players with the right attitude or performing in the right manner.

"The points will come as soon as we are a little more confident in front of goal and that is something that is just around the corner.

"We have been playing really well and the results have not reflected performances so that could be an anxious situation, but we are just ready for the game."

Martinez also had a warning for Stoke, who are just outside the top 10 and currently six points better off than his side.

"You are looking at 10 teams (at risk of relegation) so if you are in 11th position thinking you are safe you are making a mistake," he said.

Wigan have scored just 10 goals in as many league matches at the DW Stadium and that has resulted in just three wins.

Martinez boosted his attacking options in the transfer window by bringing in the highly-rated Victor Moses from Crystal Palace and Marcelo Moreno on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Both were given their debuts as substitutes in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland at the weekend and the Latics boss has high hopes they can provide the answers to problems up front.

Great things are expected of Moses in particular and Martinez believes it will not take long for the 19-year-old to make the step up from Coca-Cola Championship to Premier League.

"We all know he is an extremely talented boy but we have to be patient because we have to allow him to find his feet in the Premier League," he said.

"But when you rely on your talent to affect games the way Victor relies on his that period is going to be a lot shorter than other players."
